My name is Jonah Boyer and I am the Dude of Dudetrek. I am 19 years old, I like to play music, read, stay in shape, and I crochet hats for my friends on their birthdays.
There are many reasons why I chose to embark on the Dudetrek, but the list seems to grow daily. I feel that wisdom is more important than knowledge. Many people often point out that I am forfeiting opportunities by not immediately jumping into the world of college, but I believe Dudetrek will give me wisdom that college cannot offer. I see my journey as one of physical, and mental endurance that will shape who I become as i continue to grow. Although I may be young, I am also at a time in my life when I have a great craving to learn and experience, and more than anything, I believe that youth is motivation and motivation is fortitude. In my case specifically, I have an intense drive to get to California and nothing will stop me from getting there.
While I am on this trip, I wish to learn more about myself. I will be constantly meeting new people, and sometimes meeting no one at all. Walking every day is certainly a different lifestyle than what I have lived so far and I think the change has been humbling to say the least. Beyond my personal aspiration however, lies my hope to inspire others. So often, it seems that people miss out on their true dreams in life because they think they are incapable, or have set unrealistic goals. I will do everything in my power to dispel this notion, and by showing me your support, you can help me to do so.
A large part of my life is my love for music. I first started playing music in 5th grade when my brother forced me to play drums for a song with his band in the high school talent show (I really wanted to play guitar). I played in another band with my brother all throughout middle school and joined yet another band while I was at it. Throughout high school, I was in marching band, orchestra, wind ensemble, all-state chorus, music theory, independent study composition; I even played percussion with the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra for a while. Recently, I have been trying to learn to play as many instruments as I possibly can. I picked up cello last year and have been steadily improving on guitar with more and more practice. I now play about 10-15 instruments proficiently and am continuing to grow. I brought my Martin Backpacker guitar with me, and I seem to find music wherever I go. That said, I think a large part of my adventure will be to learn as much as i possibly can about all types of music- firsthand.

Jonah (and Johah’s family)
What a great time we had – thanks for the opportunity to practice hospitality! I’m glad we had space available and that we all got to get to know you and play some music and talk about music and hear some interesting and funny stories. Jonah, I think, is an exceptional young man, and you, his parents, get to take credit for that! Hope we meet again in the not too far away future!
Your friends in St. Mary’s, Kansas,

Hey man! It’s Sean again.
You totally left your lighter here! We’ll figure out a way to get it to you lol
Hi Jonah
This is the lady in the huge white van that pulled over on the side of the road on your trek through Kingsville MO on 58 hwy. From reading your blog and learning more about you, I can see that you are definetly a thinker kinda guy. Which is totally cool. I pray that you are blessed with safety on all your travels. As a mom, I wanted to take you in, give you some good quality lotion to hydrate your chapped cheeks, fill your belly to overflowing and feed your Spirit with the fullness of Truth. However, I can see that you are on a mission to answer all those questions for yourself and your journey is a very intentional and purposeful one. In it all please dont ever forget the truth of Jesus Christ. Im not talking the watered down religious stuff, just the stuff that realizes that there is no lasting hope apart from Jesus Christ. Yes, there is a measure hope without Him. However you seem like a guy who isnt interested in measures. You seem as though you want to live life and life to the absolute fullest. That is awesome!! May God continue to minister to you and teach you the truths of His Word. When the rubber meets the road, its as simple as the only way to the Father (God) is through the Son (Jesus Christ). Please dont take me as preachy….thats not for me. Just wanting to share my hope and not to mention you could be my son and I just cant walk away from you without sharing. Keep in touch. ~Trina S.
p.s.
You have been gifted with much talent!! And, that Gatorade sponsorship would be awesome, would it not!!! (LOL) I pray that the Lord will open all the doors for you that would bring much fullfillment for you and much glory for Him.
